Strike at the Wind! Receives $1,000.00 Check from New Pembroke Walmart

Pembroke, NC: At the opening ceremonies of the new Walmart in Pembroke, NC on October 26, Walmart officials awarded Carolina Arts Network a contribution in the amount of $1,000.00.

"What an honor!!!  This is very exciting," exclaimed Kay Oxendine, who received the
check on behalf of the Carolina Arts Network. The contribution will support Carolina Arts Network's efforts to repair and refurbish the Adolph L. Dial Amphitheater at the N.C. Indian Cultural Center, home of the outdoor drama, Strike at the Wind!

"The funds will be used to build on the work we did at our volunteer day, October 15," says Oxendine. "Over 140 hours of time were contributed that day. This check will assist us with the supplies and materials we need to carry on that work and improve the facility for our whole community," she continued.

"This is exactly the kind of partnership with business that makes the arts and tourism a successful economic development strategy," says Malinda Maynor Lowery, board member of the Carolina Arts Network. "Business involvement is critical to revitalizing Strike at the Wind!, because businesses have the same investment in the community that we do."

Since 1976, Strike at the Wind!, a musical outdoor adventure, has told the story of the Lowrie War, one of the most important events in North Carolina history.  Strike at the Wind! embodies the values of freedom, independence, and equality on which our nation and state were founded. Tickets will be available February 2006 for the 30th Anniversary season!
